The only water was that used to douse the embers at the end. We did have a real viking ship in the background, and a "stone ship" around the pyre. It was well attended, having over 100 viewers to the end and over 200 for a spell. And lots of names in the comments to read out over and above the 50+ I had in advance.
I'd say this was usefully comparable to recent ceremonies.
