Blast from the past...
Oct. 6th, 2005 04:42 pmWay back when I was going to the University of Delaware, I got heavily involved with the PLATO system. PLATO was a major time sink as well as a source of employment there. PLATO sort of faded away as Control Data Corporation faded away, but it's legacy lives on in many ways.
cyber1 popped up on my radar recently. I got an account on the PLATO system they are running, and it's got great potential still as a time sink. I've discovered that my fingers remember what to do in empire, twenty years after the fact. It's worrisome... :)
Oh, and that's empire, the Star Trek inspired multiplayer space combat/conquest game with four sides and up to 30 players. nettrek is (despite claims to the contrary) a clear clone of that game, at least from the game mechanics point of view.
Danger Will Robinson!
