Yesterday, the freezer decided to take the power hit badly and crap completely out. Given that we were already working on replacing it, and it's older than Heather, it's not a big surprise. Fortunately, the failure was discovered in time to avoid a complete meltdown.

On the other hand, it completely rewrote my plans for last night. I was able to go to Lowes and find them with a suitable freezer in stock, so we have a new one now. OK, so that went pretty much "right".

Meanwhile, the front passenger seat in the van had the recliner mechanism go Tango Uniform a while back. I was able to find a suitable place to order replacement parts. They came in this week, but it turns out that the handle was for the driver's seat, not the passenger's seat. Wonderful. Fortunately, when I called the seller (a dealer in Michigan), the clerk was able to confirm that they sent me the wrong part. I expect the right part next week... Not bad...

Then there's the bandsaw that provided a "high pucker factor" moment when the shaft for the bottom wheel snapped under considerable tension while I was making a cut. I ordered those replacement parts, and they came in yesterday. Of course, there has to be something wrong. The nut that is supposed to prevent the shaft from sliding out of the bearings was wrong. Way wrong. So wrong that I could tell by simple inspection that the threads were way wrong for the shaft. Time for another phone call...

Or I might just go to a hardware store and look for the nut there...it's not an expensive part...but this is just annoying.

Oh, and when you are trying to seat the new shaft on the twin bearings, it goes much more easily if you put the shaft in the freezer for a piece. I didn't have to heat the bearings to expand them some as well...
