The executive summary: it Did Not Suck

More usefully:

The weather provided nothing to really complain about. I'm carrying ten-plus fewer pounds than I took up. We had our best Pennsic ever (finally topping the previous high from four years ago) and our best single-day sales as well. The van and the trailer are almost unloaded. Company was good. Booze flowed in satisfactory quantities and qualities (yet without the knee-walking and potty-hugging parts!).

We had the shop set up differently this year, and I think it really made a difference. We used the small pavilion for the bedroom, kitchen, and storeroom. The back part of the main tent included a "sitting area" where we could give instruction, as well as just hang out and chat/schmooze, etc.

Midnight madness was, well, crazy. We hired two folks to help out with the shop, since we couldn't use the children. Brittney and Ascelina both did yeoman's work. By the time midnight rolled around, they were both wobbly. They earned their pay amply! Megan and I didn't get to sit around either, as one of us worked the cash box and the other kept refilling the baskets of string. We moved a lot of string this war.

I worked several shifts at troll, including one where the drama quotient spiked hard, twice, within twenty minutes. In one case, a knight demonstrated a marked lack of the courtesy one expects of a knight, leading to the head troll driving out to "have a frank discussion" with said person, at midnight. No, I'm not going to name names.

Getting out went more smoothly than I might have expected. We were ready to start packing promptly at five pm on Saturday. We were prepared to spend the night and drive home rested, but when we got to 8:30 and all we had left to deal with was the bedding and the small pavilion, we went for the gusto. We rolled out at 10:30. Megan *really* wanted to get home and managed to do most of the driving. We pulled up at 0430.

This was a fine Pennsic.

Edit: we've also managed to get back in touch with someone we gave a hand-up to back in college. It turns out that [livejournal.com profile] fabricdragon's husband, Wayne, works for him, he being the CIO of a large organization. Wayne took our business card back with him when he returned home early in the war, and I found an email from Lance with pictures of wife and kids... Serious coolness falling out from Pennsic.
