Defining Definitions
Jun. 12th, 2007 05:44 pmWe get occasional letters from Ben. In the latest, he shares a definition:
Contemplate mispronounced con-dum-plate.
I was coming back from lunch when I happened upon a few fellow inmates in their usual after-meal activity of smoking. When one of them asked why I had stopped, was looking at the mountains, and what I was doing, I said that I was just contemplating. The poor man was looking a little confused when one of our more educated looked at the confused man and said, trying to be helpful, "Con-dum-plate. Isn't that used in the schwaky hotels? They put a fancy tray by the bedside, with prophylactics on it. A condom plate."
...and in a final note:
Just remember that in here, "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" is an operating manual.
