herveusKeith Washington, onetime corporal in the Prince Georges County police force and onetime "homeland security" official for the county and close buddy (now denied vigorously) of county executive Jack "can't get a conviction for police brutality" Johnson has made the news yet again.
Last January, he shot two furniture delivery man in his home. One died. He claimed that they attacked him. The survivor claimed that Washington got angry when they wouldn't do installation work that was not part of their job. The jury said "not guilty" to the second degree murder and attempted murder charges, but "guilty" to involuntary manslaughter, etc. Washington also had brandished his service weapon at a real estate appraiser who knocked on his door (mistakenly). After that incident, his police powers were revoked.
Today's news: he was being strip searched (routinely, I gather) before a transfer, and he didn't want to surrender his prison shirt. In the pocket was found a handcuff key. The judge denied his motion for home detention. It is asserted that he had "a clear intention of attempting to escape".
In the previous general election, where Jack Johnson faced no meaningful opposition, there were write-in votes for Satan, he being preferable. Jack made a big deal of being "tough" on police brutality (for which the PG police have been notorious over time) when he was State's Attorney, and he prosecuted a fair number of cases. When the cases went to trial, somehow something always spoiled the case. He got no convictions. Ever. His successor has managed at least one conviction so far. Jack seems to be a slimy sort. It's no surprise that he attracts similar company. *sigh*
