Bang! Zoom! Another Curly W in the books!
Apr. 1st, 2008 09:18 amI'm quite pleased by the way the Nats have started their season. First they open a new ballpark with a tight game ending on a bottom-of-the-ninth-all-tied-up-with-two-outs home run by the franchise player, Ryan Zimmerman. Great drama. The next night, they go up the road to Philly to open the Phillies season. This time, the bats get a big workout as first the Nats bullpen blows the save (again), then the Nats string together a bunch of doubles in the top of the ninth to plate five for an 11-6 win. All this with Willy Mo and Elijah on the DL already.
Meanwhile, the Orioles (spit) get smushed. Goddamn Peter Angelos! I had affection and regard for the Orioles from a young age (growing up in Phillies land) that he managed to piss away. Between his manifest incompetence at owning a baseball team and his extortionate and obstinate interference with baseball in Washington, I find myself in a quandary as to who to root for when the Orioles face the Yankees. If they could both lose, I'd be happiest. I don't like this development. Hell, part of the blackmail was giving Angelos' cable operation the lion's share of the revenues for televising the Nat's games. Hence, the Nat's game in Philly wasn't even on TV last night; there was an O's game at the same time. Boo. Hiss.
Oh, well. I may try to get to a game or three at the new stadium. Perhaps I'll try to be a real cheapskate and go for section 401. Those are "the worst seats in the house"; upper deck bleachers down the third base line. Upper part of upper deck, even. The $5 seats. The view is still decent, both inside and outside the stadium, it has been reported.
