Why the palmate antlers? It's a confluence of several stories.
Recently, over on Perl Monks, Nevtlathiel declared "Silly Hat Week". Participants put up user pictures with silly hats. I had been running a picture taken in Tallinn back in June of me, my wife, and![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
yrmegard. I went quick and dirty with Photoshop and put the antlers on for my silly hat. My LJ pic is cropped from that.
Why moose in particular? It's an ancient joke.
Way back in college, playing bridge in the commuter lounge, I was moved to offer an insult to one of my opponents after a particularly noxious play. I looked at them and intoned "Your mother whores dead moose." with a straight face. Gales of laughter ensued. Since then, I have acquired a number of moose, continuing to this day. It's not nearly as bad as, say, penguins, but...
