Over on Facebook, there is a fan page for PETA at http://www.facebook.com/pages/PETA-People-for-the-Eating-of-Tasty-Animals/180991778646

One of the discussion there cited 1 Timothy 4:1-6. Aside from the relevance to the eating of tasty animals, there are some other interesting clauses...

After the flood there is a specific verse allowing the eating of animals. There is some theory that before the flood, followers of God were vegeterian, possibly vegan.

It is in Chp 9 of Genesis (Vs. 3):

Fascinating. If Christianity really hewed to all the regulations in the Bible, it would be a much different religion.

Although, if you tried to do that, you could well be paralyzed by conflicting rules as well.

In the end, it comes down to cherry-picking the set you want. There are so many to choose from.

Well, darlin, I have to disagree in a Devil's Advocate sort of way ...

See? My favorite answer to all the quoted things that have been thrown at me over the years is this:

Matt 22:37-40 - (In answer to the lawyer asking which of the laws and commandments was most important) Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

For me, this sums up what my Christian faith is or should be. My great grandmother always told us that we were not put here to take care of ourselves. We were put here to take care of each other and if everyone did their job no one would want for anything ...

Love. Everything else is details and details don't matter.

Puts an interesting twist on the phrase "The devil is in the details", now doesn't it.

Despite being very much a carnivore and very opposed to the practices of the PETA that Facebook group is mocking, I can't say as I find the Facebook group in particularly good taste.

It smacks more than a little of "Dear loser vegetarians, allow me to rub your nose in my dietary philosophy." Like any other group, it's the loud, obnoxious, in-your-face vegetarians that get the air time, but most of them are decent people trying to live their lives in accordance with their needs and values, while leaving other people to live their own lives in accordance with their own needs and values.

It just seems to me like another way to play the better-than-you game. What I eat doesn't make me any better or worse than any other person, as long as I'm not eating other humans, which is frowned on in most socities.
