Some of you might recall my employment adventure a year ago. The program management had to make some sudden staffing choices to deal with an unexpected shortfall in funds. I got caught in the mess, being without a job for six weeks (although at no time unemployed -- kudos to my actual employer, Aviture).

My last day last year was 52 weeks ago Friday. The same Friday that is presently scheduled to be my last day on the program. Surprise!

OK, first, I'm paid half-a-month in arrears, and I have a week of leave in the pot, and I'm going to be carried on overhead for a modest piece of time, so dealing with the Virginia Department of Employment isn't in the immediate future. My current employer would very much like to retain my services, in order that they may make good money off of my skills in a mutually beneficial arrangement. My preference is to see that outcome, but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm willing to consider relocation to a fairly broad range of places. Even if you have heard me carry on about "not going there", don't assume it is not negotiable.

OK, about me...

I am a database designer/developer/admin with Solaris sysadmin experience. Most recently, I've been focused on Oracle (10 and 11), but I have meaningful experience with Sybase and Informix as well. And I have been in the trade for over 25 years, for what that's worth.

Good thoughts are welcome. Leads and pointers are also welcome.

I'll be at Birka next weekend...

1) Feel free to subscribe to fuzzjobs@unicornsrest.org; it's a low-volume tech-focused job-hunting list.
2) Where do you currently live/work?
3) My company is hiring smart people with appropriate clearances, if you want to drop a resume on me.

We have, apparently, 3 positions open here at the moment - Unix SA, Sr. Unix SA and Sr. DBA. All positions are in Malvern, PA.

Unfortunately, I can't link to the specific jobs...their job posting site is all hidden behind one link...so to see them:

Go to http://corporate.navteq.com/careers.htm - click Jobs

Just click "To view all current openings click here" and then search for "Pennsylvania". Anything that shows up is for our site in Malvern; we're all owned by Navteq (which is owned by Nokia) but we're all specifically also Traffic.com people, to confuse the issue.

It's a good place, I like most of the people, especially the technical types. We've done nothing but grow, and having been acquired by Navteq and then Nokia, we've been leaned on to do a number of projects that other teams in other parts of the other companies have been doing less well than we have ;)

If you'd like any more info on any of it, let me know; I'm in the Unix SA group and the DBAs are right next to me, too.

We don't currenly have an official DBA opening, but that surprises me since we're short. However, I do know that our current DBA is on shaky ground. Do you know anything about SQL Server, or just Oracle? If so, shoot me your resume and I'll submit it. Can you get a clearance?

I currently live in Bowie; I work in Springfield; I've got a Secret clearance presently. My resume is presently in the hands of a professional writer dude getting a workover; I'll forward it as soon as I can.

SQL Server is a fork from Sybase, with which I have worked in the past. I'd need to come up to speed, but...and I do have a Secret clearance at this time. I'll shoot a resume along soon.
