Some of you might recall my employment adventure a year ago. The program management had to make some sudden staffing choices to deal with an unexpected shortfall in funds. I got caught in the mess, being without a job for six weeks (although at no time unemployed -- kudos to my actual employer, Aviture).
My last day last year was 52 weeks ago Friday. The same Friday that is presently scheduled to be my last day on the program. Surprise!
OK, first, I'm paid half-a-month in arrears, and I have a week of leave in the pot, and I'm going to be carried on overhead for a modest piece of time, so dealing with the Virginia Department of Employment isn't in the immediate future. My current employer would very much like to retain my services, in order that they may make good money off of my skills in a mutually beneficial arrangement. My preference is to see that outcome, but I'm not holding my breath.
I'm willing to consider relocation to a fairly broad range of places. Even if you have heard me carry on about "not going there", don't assume it is not negotiable.
OK, about me...
I am a database designer/developer/admin with Solaris sysadmin experience. Most recently, I've been focused on Oracle (10 and 11), but I have meaningful experience with Sybase and Informix as well. And I have been in the trade for over 25 years, for what that's worth.
Good thoughts are welcome. Leads and pointers are also welcome.
I'll be at Birka next weekend...
