Controlling pests...
Apr. 5th, 2011 04:28 pmA few years ago, we contracted with a local pest control firm to provide regular treatments to try to control the ants that liked to visit us. We clearly pointed out the mints that were not to be sprayed as they were food plants. They were quite attentive and the treatments were mostly effective. Then Terminix bought them out. Foolishly, we allowed them to continue with the regular treatments. We realized that it wasn't working the same and told Terminix to cease. They came out and did one more anyway and were particularly aggressive about collecting.
Fast forward a bit.
Preventive Pest Control came around. We discussed our needs and our concerns, particularly as the related to Terminix. They assured us that they were not in the pump and dump business, and they did seem to be reasonably effective. In March, they called to say they were coming out the next day. The man came to the door, presented paperwork for my signature, and applied a treatment. When he was done, he left my copy in the door, along with a flyer telling us that they had "joined forces" with Terminix effective the beginning of the month. I immediately called the office and instructed them that we were cancelling service effective immediately.
We go to Gulf Wars. I get a call from my son who is minding the dog and the house. Preventive Pest Control called to say that they were coming out the next day to apply a treatment. Oh? I told him to tell them to go away if they showed up.
Today, I get a call from Terminix wanting to sort out why we were "leaving" (as if we had actually voluntarily "come in"). I explained, using small words, the situation. I was then informed that I still owed Terminix $99 for service rendered on 29 March. That's three weeks after I instructed them to "go away", on a day when I was home, and for which there was no evidence left behind of actual service having been performed.
Frankly, the service that was done was performed under false pretenses, since it was officially Terminix doing it. Had they mentioned this before coming over, they would have been waved off early.
Frankly, this merely confirms in my personal experience that Terminix is slimy. I have a whole laundry list of adjectives I could pile on, but I'll leave that to y'alls imagination.
