...so it appears that Maryland's Finest are not very concerned with getting to the truth of the matter...

The "investigating" officer claims that Heather made an "improper lane change", coming from the far left lane and running into the 18-wheeler. Now, that makes absolutely no sense given that Heather was not coming down I-270, but, alledgedly, the "witnesses" claim that is what happened.

Far more likely is that Heather was tooling along minding her own business when the trucker decided that he was going to move left one lane Right Now and didn't make sure the way was clear. Her first clue something was going wrong was a bang, followed shortly by running straight in to the Jersey wall.

The cop appears to have paid no attention to skid marks.

Oh, and we have no information on the name of the truck driver, nor *his* insurance information, nor the name(s) of the witness(es). The "investigating" officer did not transmit that data. So much for "exchanging" information.

The towing company wants $400 for the tow, mileage, and storage. I've advised giving it to them in dollars. Metal dollars. The insist on cash, donchaknow. They can't refuse it...it's not like pennies.

No, I'm not feeing spiteful at all...

And if that officer didn't get the trucker's information at all, that seriously needs to be looked into. That should have been part of his report.

well, if he got it, he didn't share it with Heather. ...and the police report won't be ready for a week or two, it seems. Right.

No joke. Given that Heather can prove where she was coming from, there's a case that can be worked with, here. As part of discovery, y'all are entitled to know who those witnesses are and to depose them. (I'm not a lawyer, I just edit all their bloody depositions.)

Well, from what Heather and MJ said the other night, it sounds to me like the state trooper who ended up giving Heather the ticket doesn't believe the trucker's story. He told her not to pay it and to wait for the summons to court and to show up. So I think he believes something fishy was going on (and so do I and everyone else who heard the story).

Can't say much for the veracity of the witnesses, but if they stick to their story and can't be proven to be liars, Heather may just be hosed.:^(

Towing companies are real bastards like that. Give 'em a pile of pennies.
