Excitement in the shop...
Feb. 27th, 2006 09:05 amSo there I was cutting some wood on the bandsaw. There was an occasional odd rumble-ish act from the blade, but nothing obvious. Then there was a loud bang, followed by dead silence. I cut the motor and examined the machine.
The first thing I noticed was that the top wheel was potruding above the top shell. That's very bad.
While I was pulling the covers, my boys came down to check on the noise. Loud bangs from the shop can be a very bad thing. Behind the bottom cover, I found the problem. The axle for the bottom wheel had snapped clean off. I suspect that the rumble was the crack progressing and the wheel wobbling a tiny bit.
I think it can be repaired; I'm talking with Grizzly customer service about it.

Date: 2006-02-28 01:57 am (UTC)I haven't priced the parts, and I'll need to add a nut to the list, since I had to remove it destructively to get the stub of the shaft out of the bearings...but it's apart now.
