So last night I went to the Storvik fighter practice.

No, I don't let people try to hit me with sticks. :)

My son (who is still a minor) went to his first fighter practice. They got him fitted out with suitable loaner gear to augment what he had.

William sparred with him to get a sense of where his skills were (or weren't). The conclusion: aside from an unpleasantly high proportion of leg shots ending up low, he could probably pass an authorization test right now. Ten years of youth fighter program really seem to have worked. He was throwing decent shots at a whole mess of targets with decent power.

Then he played in the melee part and did OK. He got some good shots in on people who left themselves wide open, including one case where an opponent let Dan hit him in both kidneys at the same time (and took the shot). He looks promising, and I see no reason why he won't be able to fight at Pennsic, if not sooner than than.

Waitaminute - fighting at Pennsic? Your son is going to be 18 by Pennsic?! I know it's now close on 7 years since Jae's wedding, but I seem to recall your son being alot younger (well, a lot shorter) than someone who could be 18 this year. It makes me feel old!

He was a lot shorter, but daily injections of growth hormone are part of why he now stands 5' 6"...so your memories are not as skewed as you might think... :)

Yeah, he turns 18 just before Pennsic -- so near, in fact, that he will almost certainly have to authorized before he turns 18, but you can do that in Atlantia.
