herveus...also known as "New Car Follies"...
We got to the Honda place, and discovered that the last hybrid Civic on the lot had just been sold. Bummer. So we took a look at the 2005 Hybrid they had. Unfortunately, they were not very serious about selling it...not when they start by asking most of $1500 more than the blue book value, and only $500 less than a new 2006...
I don't tell them what I'll pay. I ask them what they'll sell the car for. I don't expect to have to ask twice. Their first "offer" was more than I paid for the car new. The salesman who sold it to us actually went and dug the paperwork out of the files to show the sales manager that; they didn't budge far enough on the second try, and I was not giving them a third. I think they paid too much for the car...
Anyhow, MJ really wanted to get a car, so we settled for a conventional Civic. They had a red one that we took home. MJ has her little red car that she's wanted for a long time. OK, it's the top trim line, and it has the sun roof (which means the head room is a skosh tight for me), but it's in our driveway.
MJ was a lot happier last night.
Now to see what the insurance will pay on the busted car...
