Report from Daegu
Oct. 27th, 2007 05:18 pmI've got the weekend to do stuff other than work. Today, several of us got together after noon and went up Apsan Mountain. It's a big park with gobs of trails and Bhuddist temples. We took the cable car to the top where we spent time in the restaurant.
I drank a moderate amount of dongdong ju, a rice beer that is sort of like homemade hard cider. It was yeasty, milky, and had chunks of rice floating in it. The smell was a bit off-putting, but it was worth getting past that. We also drank a fair amount of a local beer that was surprisingly yummy. It was a light American style lager, but sweet. The four of us killed five half-liter bottles of that plus a large flask of dongdong ju. There were several small children who took me for Santa Claus. I also got the ZZ Top bit from someone.
The actual work (yeah, what they are paying me to do here!) has been interesting and productive, if a bit chaotic as well. I'm also getting in a fair amount of walking in the course of a day, getting from my hotel (on base) to the work place.
