So when I let the AFA have a version of my email address, they started sending me "alerts". For example, they tell me:

April 27, 2007

Please help us get this information into the hands of as many people as possible by forwarding it to your entire email list of family and friends.

Ford gives another $10,000 to support homosexual marriage!

Unyielding support for same-sex marriage grows with multiple hand-outs

Dear Michael,

The Ford Motor Company has again financially expressed its support for homosexual activism by donating another $10,000 to help efforts to legalize same-sex marriage. Ford has signed on as a major sponsor of the 2007 PFLAG (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) National Convention.

According to PFLAG’s own website, “PFLAG…supports revision of federal and state statutes to extend to persons in same-gender committed relationships the right to marry with the full legal rights and benefits.”

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Ford continues to ignore the plea of hundreds of thousands of Ford customers to stop supporting homosexual activist groups:

* Ford carried a full page ad in the nation’s top homosexual magazines, The Advocate (April 24 issue) and Out (May 2007 issue).
* Ford supports homosexuality not only in the U.S., but worldwide. Ford is listed as a main sponsor of the 2007 London Gay Pride Parade and Festival in England.
* Ford’s Board of Directors, under Chairman Bill Ford, is unanimously urging shareholders to vote against a proposal to remove sexual orientation from its corporate policies. The vote will be held during its annual meeting on May 10.

Now, I won't buy a Ford if I can possibly help it, but things like this could make me reconsider. Yep, I'm sharing this with my friends, but I don't think it's going to the audience they ASSume it is.

Now today comes something new:

Meet At City Hall on National Day of Prayer, 2007

"Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord..." Psalms 33:12

Dear Michael,

On May 3, I invite you to participate in Meet At City Hall from 12:20 pm to 12:40 pm during the National Day Of Prayer. At thousands of city halls across the country, individuals will gather to pray for a moral rebirth in our country. The National Day of Prayer is an annual event established by an act of Congress which encourages Americans to pray for our nation, its people and its leaders.

Your participation in Meet At City Hall is very simple. Simply show up at your local city hall at 12:20 pm on May 3. There will be others present. Spend the 20 minutes in prayer.

If you want to help promote Meet At City Hall, we suggest you invite members of your Sunday School class or church to join together and organize, as you desire. You can invite some public officials, local pastors, church choirs, etc. to participate. The amount of organization and promotion is entirely up to you. Let us unashamedly take our Light from underneath the basket and set it on a table.

Sincerely,

Donald E. Wildmon, Founder and Chairman
American Family Association

P.S. Please forward this e-mail message to your family and friends!

...so, it would be entertaining to see a suitable variety of faiths and practices represented...

Now, their request to "forward this to everyone in your address book" is soliciation of spamming - reprehensible in my book, but I guess that shouldn't surprise me.

Had me confused for a second...

I stared at your message and thought, "I've been on the Air Force Association mailing list for years, and I've never seen anything like this before.

I'm just paradigm shifting without a clutch again.

Well, consider this to be fair warning...I'm likely to share the alerts from this AFA (whose concept of "family" seems curiously narrow) when they appear to be of general interest, especially when read taking into account my worldview instead of theirs, particularly as it relates to how one's plumbing preferences translate into differing values of one's worth (or not).

Cool. I unsubscribed, even though it seemed like a great opportunity to find out who to praise. (Yes, I went to Ford's site and told them I was proud of them.)

I'm considering stopping by City Hall tomorrow with a sign saying the AFA told me to do this:
Goddess bless America
Whether you believe in Her or not.

I don't mind the idea of a National Day of Prayer. I'll pray, too. :)

::giggles:: I don't know that I'd qualify in the oustide their "sphere" sense, but I certainly know others who *are* and who have a similar sense of humor.

Hand out the lyrics to "Old Time Religion", and start a chorus.

Can't resist (http://www.sacred-texts.com/bos/bos527.htm)! *ahem*

I hear Valkyries a-comin
In the air their song is comin
They forgot the words! They're hummin!
But they're good enough for me!

If you wanna worship Odin
You don't have to have a coat on
Grab a sword and slap some woad on
And that's good enough for me!

There are those who worship Satan
And are just anticipatin'
Armageddon's conflagratin'
That ain't good enough for me!

We went off to worship Venus
By the Gods! You should have seen us!
Now the Clinic has to screen us...
But that's good enough for me!

Let us read works of Confucius
As we walk thru Massachusetts
In white robes that freeze our tushes
But it's good enough for me!

We will worship Sun Myung Moonie
Though we know he is a goonie
All our money he'll have soonly
And that's good enough for me!

Sorry, couldn't resist!! :-D :-D :-D

*joins in*

We will worship Holy Ford,
Beta, Delta, Gamma, Lord
But the Alphas might get bored
A Brave New World for you and me!

We will have a mighty orgy
in the honour of Astarte
it'll be a mighty party
and it's good enough for me!

Thanks to great Quetzacoatl
And his sacred axolotl
And his gift of chocolatl
And please pass some down to me!

Funnily enough, after I filled in their survey, I got my address on their mailing list and from the very start, bogofilter has been shuffling all their emails into my spam box. Smart little spam catcher! Because their emails are in HTML ("click here to unsubscribe!") and I view in plain text only, since they go directly to the spam box where they belong, it hasn't been actually worth digging into the file to pull out the unsubscription URL.

Given Ford's links in the past to some unsavory organizations, this is a refreshing change. Not that Devora & I are likely to send Blanca away or anything, but Ford isn't looking so bad anymore.

That's almost enough to convert me...

...a long time Chevy girl turning to Fords. Whatever would my mother say?

And if my son didn't have to grow up in this town, I might take 'em up on their City Hall meetin' - and lead the congregation in a goddess chant!

Isis, Astarte, Diana, Hecate, Demeter, Kali, Inanna...

I unsubscribed as soon as I got their first email...but it is really tempting to take Mary to City Hall for her birthday to show her what mean, nasty, hateful people look like...Maybe wearing her "I'm Proud my Daddy's in the Army" t-shirt...And I can wear an Army Wife one...

Too bad I will probably not be organized enough to find the pace...
