...was to repent of his sins. He used to preach the gospel to enlighten and uplift people and preached against trying to effect explicit social change. Of course, the cynic might note also that this may have been a direct attempt to tell Dr. King to Shut Up, but there it was. Later, he decided that maybe social change was a good thing to preach for. Too bad he didn't understand the part about tolerance and charity. I guess they didn't pay as well.

I don't quite revel in his passing, as it does not do anything to undo the harm he and his ilk have wrought upon Christianity and upon this nation. I've long been more than merely annoyed at his attempts to redefine Christianity so narrowly. One can uncharitably hope that he is now reaping the rewards of the afterlife that he has earned. Unfortunately, demagogues of his nature seem to refresh themselves as the hydra, and he wasn't the foulest of the lot, even as he aimed pretty low.

It is entertaining in a morbid way to note the reports that Fred Phelps plans to attend the funeral. I wonder if he is bringing his usual bucket of idiocy to blame Falwell's demise on homosexuals, or if he is actually coming to show his respect.

On the up side, I put a brisket of corned beef in the crock pot before I headed off to work this morning. When I get home, I take the spare ribs that have been pondering the dry rub I put on them last night into the oven for some quality time with a slow oven. If I'm really motivated when I get home, I'll make up another batch of chopped liver as well.

You know, it's not polite to throw a glass of mead into someone's fireplace when it's not The Place, but I feel the urge at the moment.

Excepting a couple of pieces at Guglf Wars on the last night in the Security Shed, it's been years since I've had good corned beef. Enjoy!

Well, given that the fireplace is currently out of commission due to the liner (it's a steel insert type) fire-bricky sort of stuff having crumbled, toss away!

When's dinner?

Anytime from about six-ish on. I expect the corned beef to get hammered fast, but there are 8 pounds of ribs as well. It's the usual Warped Wednesday thang, so the house is open.

Right, it's Wednesday. I need to figure out how I'm going to come over in the future, this working downtown or from home in VA thing is inconvenient for the getting out to your place.

As much as I love both corned beef and ribs, I think I'm going to have to miss tonight because I have to clean my house before my houseguest arrives on Friday and tomorrow is a rehearsal night.

Do you Metro or drive downtown? Where in VA? Pickups and rides can be arranged, you know. [livejournal.com profile] dr_zrfq comes from Chantilly, for God's sake! and gets Metro pickups/dropoffs and rides. All you have to do is ask and coordinate.

I Metro downtown. And by "figure out" I know I mean "ask and coordinate"

But tonight I have a mess at home I have to clean up and an audition to prepare for.

Once your situation this week is over, this can be done. NASA HQ is a few minutes' walk from both Federal Center SW & L'Enfant Plaza Metro stations. [livejournal.com profile] northernwalker & I normally clock out together on Wednesdays & head out to meet [livejournal.com profile] sister_devora, who then drives us over to Chez Houghton.

Falwell and Phelps -- I'd almost go for the entertainment value.

My crockpot is currently nursing a large heap of boneless country-style ribs. Browned 'em last night on the grill, and then tossed back in the Italian dressing to soak overnight. Crockpotted them this AM with an onion and 1.5 bottles of bbbq sauce.

Mmmm- chopped liver.

Unfortunately, I will be comatose this evening. It's heading toward migraine territory, so sleep is recommended. Sigh. Have fun!

Please save a little of the corned beef for [livejournal.com profile] killernurd and myself? We don't have a prayer of getting there before 7.

Considering that the supposed Reward for Virtue is to spend eternity telling YHWH how great He is, I'd say that Falwell will get his just desserts no matter where he is headed...
