Howdy!

So yesterday I hear Sen. Brownbeck offering commentary on Harriet Miers. He was concerned about her potential for judicial activism.

*snort*

Brownbeck is one of many senators who should just Shut Up about judicial activism (unless they are endorsing it). He voted to confirm Janice Rogers Brown to the D.C. Circuit Court. Given her avowed penchant for judicial activism, why did he vote to confirm her?

Oh, right. Silly me. Her activism is the "right kind" I guess. It's only "liberal" activism that is verboten.

Of course, now that Miers has withdrawn her nomination, the point is moot for the moment.

Please rant on. I also get annoyed with politicians, on both sides, who throw mud for the very same thing they were doing just last week.

Man, they must think we don't vote or something.

BTB, I'm glad she withdrew too. I just didn't see that she had the credentials to be a Supreme Court Justice. I'm a middle of the road liberal ;-) but I had an un-scientific gut instinct that John Roberts would be an okay choice. Not a great choice mind you but an okay choice. Harriet Miers on the other hand...man, out of all the conservative judges available in the US why didn't they pick one of them?

Why do presidents insist on choosing candidates THEY KNOW will cause controversy and arguments? Can they possibly be as thick as they appear?

Theory: Pres chooses a candidate who causes tons of controversy...rides out the ensuing long, drawn-out, nasty storm, with candidate finally withdrawing. At this point, everyone is so sick of the whole thing they approve the next nominee just to get the process over with. Meirs was a blind, to get everyone so frustrated with the process that they will approve Candidate 2 without much fuss. Candidate 2, is of course, the REAL candidate.

I has heard that he chose Miers becuase she was on a list that Harry Reid had forwarded to him of people who stood a resonable chance of nut turing the Senate hearings into a circus. Either Reid's a genius at causing problems for the White House or every totaly underestimated the strength of the reaction to her by the GOP base.

Hopefully the next name we hear isn't Luttig or Brown. I can't even begin to imagine the firestorm if one of them were nominated.

I have wondered if they are trying this juvenile approach too. :-(

The shrub has consistently shown great loyalty to his close associates. Unfortunately, this appears to blind him to their faults and weaknesses.

At least Roberts had some judicial credentials. Miers was too much of a cipher.
