Do they know they are singing a song about freedom, in essence?

A song that lovingly criticizes the Alabama government?

Alabama voted to make this the state song but the part about the governor and does your conscious bother you made it inappropriate in many ways.

There's quite a bunch of their videos on You Tube... look up the 'Leningrad Cowboys,' and be entertained. I particularly like "Delilah."

They're surprisingly good.

The Leningrad Cowboys are a hoot, and have quite a bit of talent beneath the suits, hair and visor sunglasses (oh, the nostalgia!).

Well these guys were better known as Sleepy Sleepers before Aki Kaurismäki did his movie Leningrad Cowboys go America in 1989. If you ever get the chance to see them in action especially with the Red Army Choir it is worth it.

I myself had the opportunity in 1993 as the Total Balalaika Show was held in the Helsinki and very first time paired the great teams. The show came to be as Mato Valtonen (headman of the Sleepy Sleepers) got the idea that he just wanted to do the concert, contacted the Red Army Choir and got Finnish sponsors for the show.

So many of the choir seem to be enjoying themselves immensely... Great to actually be able to see the performance...the audio recording is fun and all, but you miss out on the expressions :)

Since lunchtime, I have corrupted a dozen or so people around the building with this.

I particularly like "Gimme All Your Lovin'", interspersed with the Russian national anthem and Hallelujah Chorus.

Oh, by the way, ...
