Bill-O bilious
May. 19th, 2008 08:32 amBill-O has lately been railing against GE, claiming that GE (and by extension CEO Jeffrey Immelt) is responsible for deaths of American soldiers in Iraq. GE does conduct some business in Iran. It is unclear how much (if any) involves weapons and training for Shiite militias in Iraq. "U.S. officials" do not a reliable source make (per se), but that question is unclear.
According to the article in today's Washington Post (front page, below the fold), Bill-O said that Immelt "is doing business right this minute with Iran, who are killing our soldiers.... That Immelt man answers to me....That's why I'm in this business right now, to get guys like that."
Fine. That's a legitimate beef and fair game, particularly if there is evidence to back up this.
However, it appears that this is really motivated by Keith Olbermann's regular abuse of Bill-O (who is eminently abusable and abuse-worthy). A GE spokesman says that executives at Rupert Murdoch's News Corp "tell us if the attacks on O'Reilly end, the attacks on GE will end." I guess Bill-O is not really motivated by genuine outrage at GE's business in Iran after all. It's just a convenient peg to hang his bile on.
Hmmm... Another round of fine journalistic ethics, Bill-O. Oh, wait. I just equated him with a journalist. My bad.
Bill-O can dish it out, but he can't take it. "No Spin Zone" means "everyone but me".
Mind you, I'm not defending GE here. I don't have much love for them, either.
