Fun this weekend

We went up to Mystic this weekend. My step-mother was throwing a surprise birthday party for my father. Surprise was effectively complete and utter. We took a three hour cruise on a topsail schooner. The weather held out nicely, and the party was a blast. I got to see some cousins that I hadn't seen in a while and to visit with lots of uncles and aunts and all that.

The trip up involved a stop at State Line Liquors in Elkton, MD, where bwana returned with much whisky, some lambic, and a bottle of Lumpy Gravy. Mind you, a significant fraction of the whisky was bought on spec, that friends would relieve me of it in the near future.

Speaking of whisky, my brother-in-law remarked that he finds himself periodically refreshing his whisky supply, since I introduced him to the good stuff. He prefers the Islay malts, particularly Laphraoig.

The drive home afterward was a bit brutal; we got home at about 0300.

Love the Laphroaig. Have the little plot of land from them that they 'lease' from me for the price of a dram of whiskey (collectible once a year, from the distillery). All but a useless thing to have but then again, it will entice me to visit the distillery when I make my way to Scotland :)

I love those liquor barns up at the border. Such an insane selection.
