OK. I guess I'll say something here. Hopefully, it displays some degree of originality, even as I subconsciously crib bits and pieces from many skillful posts I have seen.
[01] Do you have the guts to answer these questions and re-post as The Controversial Survey?
I've got a lot of gut, but only one. I've also got somewhat more sense than God gave a gnat, so I'm not going to label this as "controversial". "gratuitously vexatious", maybe. "concocted by a lamer" for sure.
[02] Would you do meth if it was legalized?
No.
[03] Abortion: for or against it?
I'm against abortion. I think it is a choice to be avoided if possible. Of course, the question leaves dangling a far more important question, being whether it should be readily available at need or not.
[04] Do you think the world would fail with a female president?
Mu. And have you (the "poll" writer) stopped beating your wife yet? Golda Meir. Margaret Thatcher. Andrea whats-her-name in Germany. To name three off the top of my head.
[05] Do you believe in the death penalty?
Almost never. Its current incarnation makes it far too easy to condemn someone on flimsy grounds and then make it difficult to impossible to address real flaws in the ultimate punishment, from which there is no recovery. Its uneven application makes the sin worse.
[06] Do you wish marijuana would be legalized already?
One has to ask why it was made illegal in the first place, and why it is characterized as something it isn't (narcotic? -- please!). Bad question. No biscuit.
[07] Are you for or against premarital sex?
Why is it any of my business?
[08] Do you believe in God?
Yes. Which one(s)? Its the fan clubs that I have problems with.
[09] Do you think same sex marriage should be legalized?
If the state purports to define "marriage" (as is the case in the US), then there is no reason to make it illegal. Of course, it *is* explicitly legal in two states already. If the term "marriage" is caught up in religious definition, then it *must* not be a matter for the states to define (q.v. the establishment clause). In such a case, the "civil union" defines the "contractual" state between two people, conveying all the legal incidents commonly ascribed to "marriage". And, thanks to the (so-called) DOMA, the full faith and credit clause of the US constitution gets to be ignored at will. Bad form.
[10] Do you think it's wrong that so many Hispanics are illegally moving to the USA?
Define the premise assumed as being in evidence that underpins this question and explain why the term "Hispanic" is appropriate to use here. I was not aware of a flood of immigration from Spain, legal or otherwise.
[11] A twelve year old girl has a baby, should she keep it?
I'm not sure how to parse that badly punctuated collection of words. Comma splicing is not OK. Learn how to use semicolons.
[12] Should the alcohol age be lowered to eighteen?
I find some ten year old stuff to be just fine, although my favorites run to 16 and up. Oh, did you mean the legal drinking age? That's not what you asked.
[13] Should the war in Iraq be called off?
What kind of a question is that? How do you apply that verb to that subject?
[14] Assisted suicide is illegal: do you agree?
Nope. It's legal in Oregon, for one. Oh, did you mean "should it be legal?"? Bad question.
[15] Do you believe in spanking your children?
What does "believe" have to do with it? My youngest child is no longer a teenager. This question is moot.
[16] Would you burn an American flag for a million dollars?
Whose flag is it? Is it mine, or someone else's? Do I have leave from the owner of the flag to burn it? Is the flag in good condition, or is it ratty and worn out? Or is the flag a surrogate for the golden calf?
[17] Who do you think would make a better president? McCain or Obama?
None of your damn business. If other writings don't reveal my position, I'm not helping you out here.
[18] Are you afraid others will judge you from reading some of your answers?
You mean people won't judge me by other stuff I write? What kind of bully do you make yourself out to be?

Date: 2008-09-26 07:53 pm (UTC)I find more encouragement in the prospect that the initiative attempting to repeal same-sex marriage in California may go down in flames. As time goes by and the world doesn't end, perhaps the influence of the rabid anti-gay fringe will fizzle. (Heard any polemics against interracial marriage lately?)
