First the Iowa Supreme Court pulls a Dover on the "defense of marriage" thing, and notes that no state has yet legalized homosexual marriage legislatively.

Then, Vermont goes and does just that.

What does "Pulling a Dover" mean?

It's a reference to Tammy Kitzmiller, et al. v. Dover Area School District, et al., wherein the plaintiff argued that Intelligent Design is equivalent to Creationism and should not be taught as part of the public school science curriculum.

What makes the case important is that the 'activist judge' (a republican put in by G.W.) not only found for the plaintiff, but wrote a scathing decision which basically put a full-stop to anyone attempting to put ID into the classroom.

The Iowa SC basically did the same thing with their unanimous decision, detailing how any argument that civil marriage should not include same-sex couples is entirely without merit.

This makes me exceedingly happy, not just for my friends who might be justified in moving to Vermont in order to benefit directly from this law, but for my species as a whole.
