World events hitting closer than I'd like.

As you may be aware, four peace workers in Iraq have been held by kidnappers for over two weeks now. Here in the Washington, DC, area, local news reports have emphasized one name, Tom Fox, as he lives here. We know Tom, having been members of Langley Hill Friends Meeting where Tom is a member.

Tom noted that plenty of people are willing to die for war, but far fewer are willing to die for peace.

I've been trolling through Google News on "Tom Fox" and found an interesting (but not surprising) range of material. Particularly noxious was the commentary with what was presented as a transcript of a Rush Limbaugh show where the kidnapping was a topic of discussion. Rush seemed to be practically giddy over the kidnapping, making remarks that suggest he thinks they had it coming, in so many words. *sigh*

Last Wednesday evening, I asked everyone who was over for the usual Wednesday night stuff to pause to contemplate the matter. Happy Birthday to me...

I'm holding Tom and his three companions in the light, praying that their captors will see the light. I'm also holding Tom's family in the light as they live with the uncertainty.

Please hold them in your thoughts and prayers.

He's still alive, so far as we know, so that's at least a little something. I just don't understand what would posses someone to kidnap people who are trying to help them.*shakes head*


And that is Rush Limbaugh we're talking about. Enlightened conversation isn't his forte.
