...to reassemble Megan's ear...

Aside from that, a few nicks, and some seat belt bruises, she should be fine, but the car is anything but. The insurance company has not yet declared it a total loss, but I'm having a hard time seeing the damage as repairable, but I'm not a professionally trained stunt evaluater. On the other hand, we went and looked at new Honda Civic Hybrids. The dealer had a 2005 (same as ours) with 20K miles (ok, we have 30K), and he was asking about $1000 less than a new 2006. That suggests that the car has lost very little value, so one might expect a settlement to nearly pay for a new one.

Megan got t-boned by a full sized van this morning. The van ended up on its side, but that driver came out unscratched. Seat belts are your friend. Matt and I were over at Marietta Mansion getting the tent set up for Marching Through Time. Megan was coming over with the Civic so Matt could go to class, but she got into the accident. We heard the accident, and headed up to see what was up. It was unpleasant to discover that it was my car.

Bleaugh.

I'm glad to hear Megan wasn't seriously injured. Still, 25 stitches are not any fun.

Ouch! I'm terribly sorry to hear of the accident. 25 stitches are definitely no fun... but I'm glad that was the extent of it.

I heard about the accident earlier today, and guessed that it was a T-boning from the descriptions of the driver (mostly okay) and the Honda (very much non-okay).

Please give her our love, many hugs and lots of good thoughts.

Do give my best wishes for a speedy recovery to Megan. Wow, what a shock to discover that the accident you heard was your own car. I was in an accident last November, but no one was injured (although it was a lot of damage to my car). I count my self as extremely lucky because the car in the lane next to me was being driven by people who know me (the Wymarc family actually) and they were able to give me assistance and reassurance. I am sure that it helped Megan to have you so near.

If I didn't wake up to a bout of acid reflux last night, I'd be in the Spewick with [livejournal.com profile] sister_devora right now. We'll see what I'm like later today.

Oh, dear. Glad Megan is okay. Might be a good idea to get her checked out anyway, as whiplash and similar injuries can take a day or two to start showing up.

Based on my recent experience, I'd say don't expect the insurance company to pay anywhere near what the car is worth. For such a new car, you might consider engaging one of the lawyers who will be contacting you in the next few days. With mine, I just ate the 20% loss since that only amounted to about $800.

My experience was 25 years ago, but I was surprised to discover how little it can take for an insurance company to write off a vehicle as a total loss. In my case it was just a matter of the cab of a pickup getting a little squashed. (Granted, the fact that it was halfway up the Alaska highway may have been a factor.) On the other hand, what they pay for a total loss is open to various interpretations ... my truck was about a year old, but as I recall the "total loss" settlement didn't come close to replacing it.

I hope everything works out well.

Just catching up on things...glad MJ is recovering well. *good thoughts for fast healing* to MJ.

In other news, please contact me at the email on my info page. I had a hell of a weekend and just plain forgot to go to Marching Through Time to get the loom. Thanks, and my apologies.

We hope Megan has a very speedy and full recovery and that your car can be replaced easily. It is amazing anyone survived that wreckage we saw, very glad she made it.
