Apr. 21st, 2006 06:41 pm...to reassemble Megan's ear...
Aside from that, a few nicks, and some seat belt bruises, she should be fine, but the car is anything but. The insurance company has not yet declared it a total loss, but I'm having a hard time seeing the damage as repairable, but I'm not a professionally trained stunt evaluater. On the other hand, we went and looked at new Honda Civic Hybrids. The dealer had a 2005 (same as ours) with 20K miles (ok, we have 30K), and he was asking about $1000 less than a new 2006. That suggests that the car has lost very little value, so one might expect a settlement to nearly pay for a new one.
Megan got t-boned by a full sized van this morning. The van ended up on its side, but that driver came out unscratched. Seat belts are your friend. Matt and I were over at Marietta Mansion getting the tent set up for Marching Through Time. Megan was coming over with the Civic so Matt could go to class, but she got into the accident. We heard the accident, and headed up to see what was up. It was unpleasant to discover that it was my car.
Bleaugh.

Date: 2006-04-23 03:52 am (UTC)Based on my recent experience, I'd say don't expect the insurance company to pay anywhere near what the car is worth. For such a new car, you might consider engaging one of the lawyers who will be contacting you in the next few days. With mine, I just ate the 20% loss since that only amounted to about $800.
